Welcome to The Perantau, your hub for Indonesians engaging with politics from abroad, while delving into identity politics and the diaspora experience.

As perantau, we bridge the gap between our current lives and the intricacies of Indonesian politics, actively participating to shape a better future for our homes.

The Perantau Podcast, as its flagship program, endeavours to share the stories of the Indonesian diaspora, first and foremost focusing on the Indonesian diaspora in Melbourne, where we are currently based.

Amongst ourselves, although some would find a bond through shared academic focus, religion, hobbies, and more, all are united by the fact of a shared identity: being Indonesian. Yet despite so, we remain divided.

Tak kenal maka tak sayang

or “to not know is to not care,” as the saying goes.

So, the point of The Perantau Podcast is to tell these stories that often go untold, taking upon the responsibility to acquaint Melbourne’s Indonesian diaspora with one another.

An aspiring journalist and early-career communications professional, Billy is an active member of Melbourne’s Indonesian diaspora and youth organisations.

The Perantau acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin nation, where this Site and Podcast is maintained and operated. We would like to pay our respects to their Elders, past, present, and emerging.
